Phoenix Dance Chamber presents
30 Years of Work
Phoenix Dance Chamber proudly presents 30 Years of Work, a snapshot of PDC’s repertoire in Chinese ethnic minority, folk, classical and modern dances. This special event will not only mark the thirty-year anniversary of Phoenix Dance Chamber, but will set our performance at Kennedy Theater, bringing Phoenix Dance Chamber back to its roots with the University of Hawaii at Manoa. It was here that Professor Liu Youlan, ethnic folk dance specialist of the Beijing Dance Academy, was invited to teach Chinese folk dance classes in celebration of the Chinese bicentennial in 1989. As a student of her workshops that year, founder Diane Letoto fell in love with Chinese dance and established Phoenix Dance Chamber under the guidance of her mentor, Liu Laoshi.
The dances presented in this concert will highlight the theme of labor and hard work from traditional Chinese ethnic villages to our present day, while also honoring the tireless efforts of those who helped Phoenix Dance Chamber bring China’s cultural diversity to thousands of people over the last thirty years through dance. Don’t miss 30 Years of Work on Saturday, June 22, 2019, for a glimpse into the history of Hawaii’s one-of-a-kind Chinese dance school. We welcome you to participate in the continuing legacy of Chinese heritage in Hawaii by supporting Phoenix Dance Chamber.
